| Beschreibung [de] | Das „ÖSZ - Fachinstitut für Innovationen im Sprachenlernen und -lehren“ ist aus dem bisherigen Zentrum für Schulentwicklung, Bereich III: Fremdsprachen hervorgegangen und befindet sich in Graz. Ebenso wie die beiden anderen Bereiche arbeitet dieses Institut an der Schnittstelle zwischen Schule, Forschung und Verwaltung; es ist bestrebt, sprachenpolitische Impulse in praxisnahe Konzepte zum Fremdsprachenlehren und –lernen umzusetzen. Die Vernetzung der Arbeitsergebnisse des Europäischen Fremdsprachenzentrums des Europarates in Graz mit relevanten Bildungseinrichtungen in Österreich wird als wichtiges Anliegen bezeichnet. Das ÖSZ ist das nationale Fachinstitut für Innovationen und setzt folgende Schwerpunkte: Internationale Gremientätigkeit und Trendanalysen, nationale und regionale Entwicklungsprojekte und Informationsmanagement. Durch laufende Aktualisierung und Weiterentwicklung des Internetangebotes wird eine Informations- und Vernetzungsstruktur zur Unterstützung von Fremdspracheninnovationen in Österreich aufgebaut. Im Arbeitsbericht wird der Aufbau einer Vernetzungs- und Unterstützungsstruktur, der internetbasierte Informations- und Servicedienst ausdrücklich erwähnt. Das Angebot ist tatsächlich übersichtlich und reichhaltig. Für die Bedürfnisse von SprachenlehrerInnen und Sprachenlernenden werden theoretische und sprachenpolitische Impulse aufgegriffen und umgesetzt, wie z.B. das autonome Lernen als methodisch-didaktisches Prinzip, das die Lernendenperspektive in den Mittelpunkt stellt und die Selbstorganisation des Lernenden in Vorbereitung auf Lebensbegleitendes Lernen unterstützt. Zum Fremdsprachenlernen in der Grundschule gibt es eine eigene Zeitschrift (ZOOM), weitere Projekte sind das Europäische Sprachenportfolio, Englisch als Arbeitssprache, Sprach- und Kulturerziehung, das Europasiegel für innovative Sprachprojekte. Zahlreiche Publikationen können online bestellt werden, Kurzbeschreibungen können eingeblendet werden, Texte zum download werden angeboten. |
| Beschreibung [en] | The Austrian Language Competence Centre has emerged from the former Centre for School Development, Area III: Foreign Languages, and is based in Graz. Similar to the other two areas, this institute works at the interface between school, research and administration; its aim it to translate language policy initiatives into practically viable language learning and teaching concepts. The website describes the integration of the working results of the Council of Europe’s European Foreign Language Centre with relevant educational institutions in Austria as a major goal. The Language Competence Centre is the national professional institute for innovation and pursues the following main lines of activity: the work of international fora and trend analysis, national and regional development projects and information management. The information provided on the Internet is updated and further developed on an on-going basis with a view to building an information and network structure to promote foreign-language innovations in Austria. The activity report explicitly mentions the development of a networking and support structure, Internet-based information and service features. The information and services provided are indeed clearly organised and comprehensive. Theoretical and language policy initiatives are taken up and implemented to meet the needs of language teachers and students, e.g. autonomous learning as a methodological/didactic principle that puts the learner’s perspective in the centre and supports self-organisation of learners in preparation for life-long learning. A special magazine (ZOOM) is published on foreign language learning in primary education, other projects are the European Language Portfolio, English as a working language, language and culture education, the European quality award for language projects.
